Frequently Asked Questions:

WHAT IS THE NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT FOR?
The non-refundable deposit must be paid within 48 hours of scheduling your appointment. Your desired date for photographic coverage will be held. If the deposit is not paid within the 48 hour time frame, your date will be in jeopardy of being removed from our photographic schedule and will need to be rescheduled for another available date. If the deposit is not made by the agreed payment option in the 48 hour time frame, we can no longer hold the date as we will have to entertain other requests.

BEST TIME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
Reserve your appointment as soon as possible. We fill up the schedule quickly.

IF IT RAINS ON MY DAY OF THE OUTDOOR PHOTO SHOOT?
The studio will reschedule your session for the next available date at your convenience.

CAN I HAVE PROPS OR PETS IN MY PORTRAIT?
Yes.  Please make arrangements with the us ahead of time.  There is no additional charge.

COLORS THAT PHOTOGRAPH BEST?
Primary colors such as black, charcoal, royal blue, navy, burgundy, red, forest green, mustard, tan, pink, purple and white photograph best. Plaid and strip shirts look great.

WHAT IF I WEAR GLASSES?
Glasses that are transitional or non glare free should have the lenses removed from your frames prior to the photo shoot. Removal of glass glare or tinting that blocks the subject’s eyes will incur additional retouching. Please consult your photographer if you have any concerns.

DO YOU PHOTOSHOP OUR IMAGES?
Yes, we do.  We make them print ready.  This means adjusting exposure, cropping if necessary, and other “fixes” to make the photo look good.  We do some touch ups automatically, but anything that’s a bigger job, background removal for instance, slimming, extensive blemishes/rashes, requires an additional fee.

WHAT ABOUT COPYRIGHT IMAGES?
We give every family a release letter that gives you permission to print and share your images anywhere. Commercial accounts may have additional limitations. Please contact your photographer for details.

CAN I EDIT OR MODIFY THE PHOTOS YOU GIVE ME?
NO! You have no right to alter the Final photo(s) in anyway except to change its size for printing or digital display. If you desire any alterations you will need to consult your photographer first, and we will be allowed the first option to make alterations when possible. Please understand that the alterations of the photo(s) will require additional payment for the time rendered and the purchase of a new Photo Release Agreement.

LADIES- SHOULD I WEAR MAKEUP?
Yes. Makeup for photographs should be slightly heavier than normal. However, too much makeup tends to give you a painted look and too little might not show off your features. A translucent powder is helpful to eliminate shine, especially for oily skin. Since most portraits concentrate on the eyes, great care should be taken to make them look their best.

WHY DOES CUSTOM PHOTOGRAPHY COST MORE?
Custom photography is unique.  It requires forethought and planning and a big time commitment.  Custom photography provides better customer service, session catered to each individual and better choices.   The end result is a timeless heirloom.  The time invested in a session is only a small portion of the time involved in the process.  The photographer invests a great deal of time preparing for the session, travel time to/from the session, uploading and culling through the photos, editing time and client ordering and delivery time, all to provide you with a unique experience and result.

Although photography is my passion, I spend a great deal of time continuing my knowledge of photography through workshops, mentorships and other resources.  I invest a great deal of profits back into equipment, props, camera maintenance and other camera equipment.  These are just a few reasons why custom photography is more expensive than chain studios found in the mall.

I THINK I WILL GET "UNCLE BOB" TO SHOOT MY WEDDING.... IS THIS OKAY?
Not a wise choice – This is a special one time event that will be in your journal forever.  Anybody can pick up a camera, create a web site, and hang out a flyer, but everyone does not have the eye, the talent, the love and knowledge of photography that a “real” photographer has.  He or she will know what images to take, how to create the image you want, and will have a growing knowledge of lighting and techniques,  to make you look better than you ever thought possible.

DO YOU HAVE A FEE FOR WEDDING CONSULTATIONS?
Absolutely not!  Our time with you is valuable to us.  It gives us a time to get acquainted with you and to find out what your dreams and thoughts are.  We encourage you to bring suggestions and images you like to our meeting.

DO YOU TRAVEL?
Yes!!! I will travel anywhere you’d like me to go. I include travel throughout Washtenaw, Livingston and Wayne counties.  And if you’re outside of those areas, fear not! My travel fees are minimal. I also travel out of the state or country (depending on location) for destination weddings and events. For destinations, the additional fees outside of the package you choose, will be flight, room & board.

DO WE NEED TO MEET IN PERSON BEFORE THE WEDDING?
I do not require that we meet in person before the wedding, though I do highly encourage it. On your wedding day, you may be spending more time with your photographer than anyone else who is in attendance at the wedding. This is why I like to meet before the wedding–so we get to know each other and I fully understand your vision for the wedding day. If you are unable to meet in person, a phone call or even a video chat online would be great.

DO YOU HAVE AN ASSISTANT PHOTOGRAPHER FOR MY WEDDING OR LARGE EVENT?
Yes! Although I’m perfectly comfortable photographing most events solo, I prefer working with one or two of my talented assistants. Having an assistant photographer not only provides backup coverage in case a piece of my photography equipment were to fail, but it also provides you with a second angle of every detail of your day. (As a side note, equipment failure is rare, however, possible. I take great care of my equipment. In the event this were to happen, my assistant will be available to continue coverage while I quickly switched to my backup camera).

HOW LONG UNTIL I SEE MY WEDDING PHOTOS?
On average, it’s about 6-8 weeks before the photos are available online for viewing, and may be quicker depending on the volume of weddings being photographed at the time. But I know how anxious you will be to see your wedding photos, so I do post sneak peeks of some of the photos in the immediate days following the wedding.
